anything, everything

by Maisie Russel

the thing about metaphors is

they circle around undistilled truths—

like hiding behind breath-taken;

captivated moon-eyes calling it tender

like secret longing that aches, sunlight

touching dust, settling for hunger

like witnessing the tress grow and graze

the garden beyond the clouds; praying surrender

let me say this once: ask me for the world

and I will give it to you.

Maisie Russel is a poet living in the desert. She also works on hcl design, information architecture, and ethical technological practices. Her works are published in various homes for poetry, both online and in print.
