a place for poets
maybe you’ve been writing poetry all your life. maybe you want to turn a passion for words into something more. or maybe you’re new to the world of poetry and want to find a community of poets.
we started boats in october 2021 to be a magazine that highlights the voices of women, LGBTQ writers, and poets from underrepresented backgrounds.
we are honored that you would consider boats a home for your poetry!
where do we get our name from?
our editor-in-chief got her bachelor’s in literature & writing and one of her favorite books was The Great Gatsby. Gatsby’s intense desire to reclaim the past is futile in the end, and we know that, but as readers, we want to see how the story plays out.
the themes of hope, desire, loss, disillusionment, and identity shape many of the poems we write because they reflect our lives and experiences. we experience pain and grief, love and happiness, rage and fear. we know that we are mortal and will have an end. but for now, we write. we beat on.
