A Glimpse is a beautiful collection drenched in moonlight, time, clouds, and sea. Robson’s words wander along hard landscapes of highways and railroad tracks, searching for softer, greener spaces filled with lace curtains and gum trees, kookaburras and magpies, delphiniums and ferns. Quiet imagery is layered with nostalgia and memory, an exploration of geographies and emotions, both familiar yet wistful, with an underlying longing to be elsewhere.

Debbie Robson has a gift for wondering about the everyday world and all the people in it. From cats “in an avalanche of fur” to the “normally implacable faces” of strangers’ houses, the details she sees along the “small winding roads … the ones to chart life by” are charmed glimpses: memories of childhood; the beauty and comfort of flowers; imagined histories and tantalising visions of what could be other people’s paradises.
